MANSFIELD — There might be some familiar faces on the big screen starting this weekend. “Chosen,” a film produced in Mansfield this past summer, is kicking off this weekend at Crossroads Community Church.
According to Mansfield native Kimberly Yeager Miller, JCFilms produced the new movie starring Dean Cain, Kevin Sorbo and Eddie McClintock. The faith-based film discusses adoption and foster care and was filmed in Mansfield in June. MIller is working as an actress, instructor, image consultant and producer on the film.
Miller says numerous local residents appear in the film. Ohio-native McClintock attended the premiere and is in Mansfield through November 17th filming another JCFilms movie, entitled “Duplicate Divinity.“
Since 2013, JCFilms has produced over forty faith-based and family friendly moves. Its goal is to create family-friendly films while offering an opportunity for people of faith to get involved in Christian movie-making.
“Chosen” is based on true stories of adoption and foster parenting. According to the Director, “Chosen” is a blueprint for what churches and communities can do to help.
“We do not just want to make a film, we wanted to make a film that will change and benefit the lives of children,” says President of JCFilms Jason Campbell. “Realistically, not everyone can be a foster or adoptive parent. Campbell says beyond making an entertaining film, his goal is to leave a lasting effect on the lives of those involved in adoption and foster parenting in Ohio. To do this, JCFilms is creating a non-profit organization called Ohio Helping Hands.
Ohio Helping Hands provides parents and children in foster care or adoption situations with programs that promote safety, permanency, and community.
The theme of the multi-plot movie is about empowering people to get involved. On any given day in Ohio, nearly 16,000 children are being cared for in foster care. This number is expected to increase as the number of foster parents are decreasing.
Governor Mike DeWine has stated there is a foster-care “crisis” in Ohio. According to DeWine, “There are currently about 16,000 foster children in Ohio, up from 12,000 in 2013 – an increase that’s due in large part to opioid-addicted parents.”
“Chosen” highlights the beauty of adoption and foster parenting, but also shows challenges many adoptive and foster parents endure. It is a depiction on how communities and people of faith come together to help and support these many challenges.
Another movie will be filmed this week in Mansfield entitled “Duplicate Divinity.” This faith-based motion picture will be about two twin brothers that find meaning in life when one brother steals the right to become a pastor of a small community church. This modern-day story of Jacob and Esau is a humorous look into church culture and politics.
