MANSFIELD — Whether opposing illicit drugs or advocating for a dry dam to mitigate flooding, one councilman has demonstrated to Mansfield’s north side the axiom: “good fences make good neighbors.” With November 2nd ‘s Election Day just around the corner, clergymen are giving an “upper hand” to Jason Lawrence’s re-election efforts.
Forty-six area clergy released an open letter endorsing Jason Lawrence’ s campaign to continue as the Fifth Ward City Councilman. According to the pastors, Lawrence’s record demonstrates he is a strong proponent of faith, family, and freedom. Items listed in the letter included: support of faith-based initiatives, resistance to divisive social justice, support for the prohibition of illicit drugs, support of local law enforcement, and record of support for local prayer initiatives.
In their letter the clergy wrote, “Based on a Biblical worldview, our strong conviction as forty-six (46) clergymen is that Councilman Jason Lawrence will best serve as Fifth Ward Councilman in his second full term for the City of Mansfield in the upcoming November 2nd, 2021 General Election.”
Lawrence has respect from his peers on both sides of the aisle in City Council. Lawrence successfully lobbied for the Touby Run flood mitigation project that could free up to 106 acres from the flood plain on the north side of Mansfield. In addition, City Council followed Lawrence’s lead to prohibit the sale of marijuana within city limits and also voted down a divisive social justice resolution during a national calamity involving billions of dollars of property damage. Most of the destruction occurred predominantly in urban neighborhoods.
At the time, Councilman Lawrence said “I support our police and fire departments and we want safe neighborhoods with families. My ward would be especially vulnerable if we were to lose our safety forces. After three months, we have seen the destruction to homes and businesses from a movement that no longer wants an honest conversation. I am not sure how toppling monuments of abolitionists and burning Bibles changes anything.”

“There is more that unites us than divides us” says Lawrence. “My passion is that Mansfield would be a safe place for children to grow up in and a great place to grow old in.”
One of the clergy standing behind Councilman Lawrence’s campaign, Pastor Floyd Allen, commented “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
Another pastor that recently moved to the area commented about Lawrence’s family values.
“I first met Jason Lawrence at a neighborhood watch meeting and was impressed with his honesty and sincerity,” says Pastor Clint Zeigler. “Most striking to me was when he shared how his parents raised him. Today our culture needs virtue. Sadly it is rare to find this in leadership, and in society at large.
“When electing leaders to guide the direction of our community, our future, and our prosperity, the most important characteristic a candidate should have is trustworthiness. I believe Jason Lawrence is trustworthy. I am convinced Jason will not compromise his Biblical values and that he will serve his constituents for their gain and not his own self-gain.”
As a husband and father of four, Councilman Lawrence believes strong families are foundational for a vibrant community. He regularly leads city council meetings with an opening prayer invocation.
